Yuganiki Okkadu Movie Review

Well, I have heard a lot of things about this movie, interested to watch it from the day it was released. Few of my friends told the movie is good, few completely trashed the movie calling it a complete crap and "arava paithyam". The movie is directed by Selva Raghavan with Karthi Sivakumar, Reema Sen and Andrea playing lead roles. Music is composed by GV Prakash Kumar. This movie somehow grabbed my attention with its interesting poster designs and comments made by my fellow movie goers.

A Little History

Cholas and Pandyans are believed to be cold blooded rivals in the HISTORY. To escape the pandyans,  and save the life of his successor the Chola emperor sends his son along with the Chola people to a secret territory. The cholas take away a sacred idol of Pandyans, to anger them. From then the Pandyans were making unfruitful attempts to find the territory and get their idol back.

Story

The movie starts off with an archealogist missing while he tries to trace the lost "Cholas" few centuries ago. Reema Sen, now leads a team to discover the region where the last prince of the cholas and the people were believed to disappear. She convinces Andrea, the daughter of the missing archealogist to join her, since she knew few things which she learnt from her father. Karthi is a kind of daily labour at the Ship yard. He, along with his 30 coolies were appointed to help and support the investigation team. The team heards lot of things about the place that they gonna discover. Few called it as place where "GOD's" live, few called it a place of "Devils". The Journey Starts....

It is believed that the Chola's have 7 traps, or should i say 7 DANGER's set for the people who try to trace them. The Sea creatures, Cannibals, Warriors, Snakes, Hunger, Quick Sand and the Village. Most of the army men and the porters who were appointed to help the team get killed by these traps. After facing all these traps FINALLY karthi, Reema Sen and Andrea discovers the place only to know a SHOCKING truth that "CHOLAS" exist even today. Cholas believed a "Dootha" would come one day who will take all of them to their country.

Rest of the story is all about

1. Did the Dhootha existed and will he help Chola's regain their culture and heritage.
2. The Shocking truth about Reema Sen, who is she?

Performances

All of them were brilliant. I should say Reema Sen was the best among the three, she is awesome as a ruthless, duty minded and brave officer. The next best would be Karthi with his labour histronics, should say he has done a good job. Andrea was ok, She looked beautiful. Parthiban as the Chola King is adequate. Reema Sen and Andrea were brilliant in a song, excellent picturisation and superb choreography.

Music

Music by GV Prakash was okay. Heart and Soul of the movie was BGM, which he has done a commendable job.

Photography

Should say one of the bests in recent times. I do not know the person who has done it but i can confidently say he has done an INCREDIBLE job.

Direction

Should commend Selva Raghavan for the subject he has chosen. Direction was good. I liked the quick sand episode and the episodes in the Den.

On the whole you can easily watch this movie once, though there are few scenes involving Gore, i felt it will not disturb you too much.
